Health plan price transparency helps consumers know the cost of a covered item or service before receiving care. This valuable data is now available but is hidden in machine readable files (MRFs) that have been inaccessible for analysis -- until now.
The MRF Explorer is an online look-up app for in-network reimbursement rates, for medical services including physician, hospital, drug, and medical equipment.
The MRF Search is an adjunct to the MRF Explorer to find the MRF URLs for a specified insurance company.
Quick Start Guide
The MRF Explorer is a custom-built web application for querying MRFs, providing a quick and affordable solution. Nothing needs to be installed. You need only to use the web browser on your computer or cell phone.
The purpose of MRF Search is to find the MRF URLs for a specified insurance company. MRF Search can be useful as a supplement to MRF Explorer or on its own. You can narrow your search results to specified EINs, NPIs and Billing codes.

The National Provider Identifier (NPI) is a unique identification number for covered health care providers
Specify NPI to limit the results to specific providers.
Click the Lookup to bring up a handy NPI lookup form.
NPIs are optional but recommended, as the trial version of MRF Explorer limits output to 10,000 rows.

Select the services, covered items or drugs for which you desire the contract (negotiated) rate.
Begin typing to choose among the 500 most shoppable items.
The Excel report will show the billing code type. Modifiers, if they exist in the MRF, will be shown as well.
